dear Future Boyfriend,
When I was in high school, I used to dream up elaborate dates—in fine dining restaurants, on top of the tallest building in the metro (wherein violins were playing and with a snap o your finger, there’d be fireworks. So a la F4), one by the pool side of a hotel, with matching rose petals in the pool while we danced to violins (again)—dates I’ve taken inspiration from movies. But, I grew up and realized it’s not all about fairy tales and magical moments. I realized there will be a prince, but he may not sweep you off the way you wanted to. Rather, it’s being with the prince and staying with him through the good times and bad because you want to, because you want him. I’ve come to realize also that the whole five-star thing is not me. I mean, I’d enjoy it if you truly are the guy who is comfortable in that setting; I’m down for anything. But if you are uncomfortable with that, then I know we’d be awkward all night for sure. Point is, don’t force yourself and bend over backwards to impress me or think what would impress me. Just be real. If you’re a really fun guy to be with, then we’d have fun no matter what we do. I’m a girl who appreciates the big gestures as much as the little gestures. I’d enjoy dates where we’d get to cook or bake together, play video games together, watch TV together, or sit in the park at night just talking about our dreams. I’d love to learn and explore something new together with you. I’d appreciate long car rides, where we’re singing out loud to stupid songs, and normal everyday things as having lunch together. We could be like kids and go to the carnival, explore Intramuros together, walk down the Manila Bay strip at sunset, watch the city at Jack’s Ridge, fly kites and run around in La Mesa, bike around Baguio, hop on a bus to God-knows-where, it doesn’t really matter. If I’m with you.
